Chicago River: Green on St. Patrick’s Day!

Chicago does not exclude anyone from being Irish on St. Patrick’s Day! In observance of this occasion, the Chicago Journeymen Plumbers Local Union 130 UA has a clandestine orange dye that they employ in order to tint the Chicago River green. This annual rite, which commenced in the year 1962, attracts a throng of individuals to both the adjacent riverbanks and nearby avenues. We spoke with several participants to obtain their thoughts:

“I’ve never been anywhere in the world with a St. Paddy’s Day like this.”

“I did not expect the river to be so vibrant.”

“Everyone is green. Everyone is ready to have a good time. Everyone is ready to love and party.”

“It’s nuts. You got people everywhere in green, celebrating, maybe drinking a little bit. But, it’s a very fun atmosphere.”

“Nobody does it like Chicago. St. Patrick’s Day is the best here.”
