Charleston Hosts Festive St. Patrick's Day Parades with Road Closures and Parking Restrictions

Charleston, the city of the Carolinas, is to host twin parades on Friday morning to revel in St. Patrick’s Day.

At the stroke of 10 in the morning, Saint Patrick’s Day Parade is to commence its journey from Ann Street. The parade’s itinerary would carry it to the west on King Street and then south on Broad Street, finally concluding its voyage right in front of the renowned Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. The parade is to continue its northward course towards Lagare Street before its eventual dissolution.

The staging area, where the parade’s participants will gather, is to be barricaded to traffic from 9 in the morning.

The following streets would be closed due to the parade:

  • Ann Street from King to Meeting Street
  • Radcliffe Street from King Street to Rutledge Avenue The parade route would also be blocked off from 10 in the morning, including:
  • Ann and Radcliffe Streets up to King Street
  • King Street up to Broad Street
  • Broad Street up to Legare Street
  • Legare Street would be used for disbandment

Apart from the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade, the Hibernian Society would also be hosting their own St. Patrick’s Day Parade at 10:30 in the morning.

The Hibernian parade is to commence from Meeting Street, outside Hibernian Hall, and would continue its journey southward on Broad Street. The parade’s itinerary would then take it eastward on East Bay Street, then northward on Queen Street, before heading back to Hibernian Hall by turning westward on Meeting Street.

The following streets would be closed due to the Hibernian parade:

  • Meeting Street up to Broad Street
  • Broad Street up to East Bay Street
  • East Bay Street up to Queen Street
  • Queen Street up to Meeting Street
  • Meeting Street up to Hibernian Hall

All the roads are expected to reopen at 11:30 in the morning as stated by the Charleston Police Department.

Furthermore, the duration of the parade would also see some restrictions in parking in the following streets:

  • Ann Street from King to Meeting Street
  • Radcliffe Street from King Street to Rutledge Avenue
